Cindy,

Yes, I made it back. Too bad you’re so far away, you missed one hell of a weekend. Freddie and I headed out of Queens to 95 North, which actually takes you east, hugging the coast of Connecticut. It’s the first time I’ve been through New England in over 15 years, not since I was a kid I guess. We stayed at a friend’s house on Friday night, near the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound. Saturday morning, after pancakes and coffee, we packed our stuff and drove through Massachusetts to Vermont, near Bennington. After setting up camp, Freddie read some of the poems he’s putting in his chapbook, and I read some lines from Olson as the first snow of the year fell, little six-pointed flakes. Something like, “And for the water-shed, the economics & poetics therafter? / . . .(o Statue, / o Republic, o / Tell-A-Vision, the best / is soap. The true troubadors / are CBS. Melopoeia. . . / (o Po-ets, you / should getta / job.” Honestly, it was a taxing trip, the days are getting shorter, and it rained on us, and all the birch trees had already lost their leaves. On the drive back, we saw a sign in Massachusetts that said “Poets Seat Tower.” The “poet” is a reference to Frederick Goddard Tuckerman. A stone tower in the middle of nowhere for poetry. . .

Freddie--

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about Jacques Derrida. I was supposed to sit in on one of his classes here in New York toward the end of the month. I had heard him speak in a lecture hall, but never in a classroom setting. These things go as they go—as far as he still functioned in the present tense. But what would I have said or what would it have mattered? I can’t help but think of Bergson and Deleuze. . .I haven’t even started writing poems for this new thought. The final name is A.Q.P. Collective right? I’m sure you’re almost done with your end of it by now. Didn’t you guys come up with some guidelines? If so, send them in your next message. Or better yet, bring them with you to Vermont. And yes, I completely agree to help you move out of Queens, as long as you sign with blood to be here when I get out of Manhattan.

best,
